A new pedestrian crossing is set to be built in Upminster to "improve road safety".

Havering Council has proposed the installation of a new raised zebra crossing in Front Lane, Upminster, outside of number 321.

There is already an informal crossing on the street, leading to a path which cuts through to Griffins Avenue, but there are no zebra markings on the road.

The council has opened a consultation on the proposal, seeking residents' views until October 3.

The consultation page states that the council hopes to "improve safety for everyone" with the crossing.

It said: "The aim of this upgrade is to improve safety for everyone and make it easier to cross the road, especially for vulnerable road users, including those with limited mobility.

"We welcome any feedback on the proposals, which will be taken in to consideration before any formal decision is made regarding the implementation of the scheme."

Havering Council has previously sought residents' opinions on other proposed crossings in the borough, including in Pettits Lane in Romford and Whitchurch Road in Harold Hill.

Most recently, it put forward plans for a new signal-controlled crossing in Straight Road as part of the Gallows Corner works.
