Major refurbishment works at a Hornchurch college campus are expected to start next year.

New City College's Ardleigh Green campus is set to undergo major renovations - including the partial and full demolition of four teaching blocks - after planning permission was granted on Tuesday, May 20.

Principal of Ardleigh Green and Havering Sixth Form campuses, Janet Smith, has confirmed that the works are expected to start in early 2026.

Ms Smith said the refurbishment will be phased and is being planned to "minimise disruption".

The works will mark a "significant milestone" for the college and aim to "maximise improvements" to teaching areas, facilities and student social spaces, she added.

As part of the extensive renovations, both C and W Block will be demolished to open up space at the front and in the centre of the campus.

The Nursery Block - described in the initial plans as a Portacabin that is "no longer fit for purpose" - also faces demolition to allow pedestrian access from the car park into the heart of the campus.

Other parts of the refurbishment plans include renovating the inside of D Block for hair and beauty students, and creating a new library and learning resource area in Block A.
