A proposed walking and cycling route could soon connect a major road in Rainham with new housing areas.
Havering Council has proposed a walking and cycling improvement scheme along Marsh Way, between A1306 New Road and industrial areas like the London Riverside Business Improvement District (BID).
The new route would introduce a segregated cycle path between A1306 and the A13, which would then link to an existing shared-use cycle lane passing underneath the A13 and down towards the CEME business campus.
A shared footway is then proposed to run through this centre.
The route is also intended to eventually connect to the proposed Beam Park railway station, although the construction of the station has been pushed back until at least the end of 2027.
Havering Council has opened a consultation for the Marsh Way scheme, saying it will "provide a continuous and safe walking and cycling route" between the A1306 and nearby housing and commercial areas.
On the consultation page it said: "Marsh Way provides an important connection between key housing and employment regeneration areas in Rainham.
"The road is busy with no existing cycling facilities, making it difficult for cyclists, pedestrians and other traffic to flow alongside each other safely.
"Marsh Way connects into the London Riverside Business Improvement District, and many businesses struggle to retain staff because it is difficult to access the area other than by car.
"Delivery of this walking and cycling improvement scheme will provide an alternative for employees wanting to travel to work without having to use a private vehicle."

The project will also involve reducing Marsh Way into a single vehicle lane in the southbound direction from A1306 to the roundabout with Consul Avenue, where it will then widen to two lanes.
Other elements of the proposal include new crossings within the CEME campus, improved lighting along the A13 underpass, new signage and road markings, and upgrades to bus stop infrastructure.
