National Fish & Chip Day 2024: Top-rated TripAdvisor spots in Havering

In honour of the occasion, we have put together a list of the five best places for fish and chips in Havering - according to TripAdvisor - to help you celebrate properly.

1. Poseidon's Fish & Chips 

This family-run fish and chippie can be found in Ardleigh Green Road, Hornchurch. 

It not only serves fish and chips, but also offers customers kebabs, chicken wings and shish. 

The business has a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor from a total of 54 reviews, 43 of which have rated it 'Excellent'.

One visited the takeaway in May, writing: "Having being recently moved into the area I have tried most of fish and chip shops in the area, and this one stood out to me the most because the service was the best I’ve had and the food.

"I had to wait for 4-5 minutes but it was very well worth it as I know it was cooked fresh and nicely, and they even gave my child a free lollipop which made his day."

2. Chariots Fish & Chips

Another traditional chippie, this time in Upper Brentwood Road, Gidea Park. 

They have an extensive menu offering burgers, pies and seafood plates.

Chariots Fish & Chips has been given a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor, with their most recent 'Excellent' review written in April this year. 

Chariots Fish & Chips (Image: Google Maps) A reviewer wrote: "Brilliant tasty fish and chips. Great service, massive portions. Obviously do a very busy pick up service going by regular delivery riders coming in.

"Portions are massive. Our family live local and if you were taking the food home you could easily feed 2 people on one portion. 

"Would we recommend? Definitely, just share a portion unless you are very hungry."

3. The Greyhound Harvester

This restaurant can be found in High Road, Romford. 

Although not a chippie, a number of their TripAdvisor reviews have made special mention to the fish and chips they offer. 

One wrote: "Popped in for a few pints of Coors, decided to eat; fish and chips was the best I’ve eaten in a long time. Staff were very polite and attentive", following his visit in April 2023.

4. Golden Lion

This pub in High Street, Romford, has also had special mentions to its fish and chips in TripAdvisor reviews. 

It has a four star rating from a total of 267 reviews, with 161 of these rating it 'Excellent'.

One who visited in November 2023 wrote: "Amazing experience. We had fish and chips with mushy peas and honestly I haven’t had a decent pub meal like that in a long time.

"My friend had the katsu chicken and said the curry sauce was to die for. Will 10/10 recommend to my friends (commuting) through the area".

5. The Rabbits Pub

This pub can be found in Stapleford Road, Romford and has a four star rating from a total of 354 reviews. 

Of these, 182 rated it 'Excellent' with some recent mentions for their fish and chips.

"Service was quick, friendly and food was spectacular. Shame we live so far away as we’d definitely return".
