A major music festival set to take place in Dagenham next month has been cancelled.

It was announced today (April 29) that the eleventh edition of We Are FSTVL will no longer be going ahead on May 25 and 26 in Central Park after rainfall caused health and safety concerns.

This year's event had switched venues from Damyns Hall Aerodrome, Upminster to Central Park.

In a statement on its website, We Are FSTVL wrote: "We are devastated to announce that for reasons beyond our control, We Are FSTVL 2024 is unable to go ahead."

They said they had been working with the council "to create detailed plans for how the festival would work this year and be better than ever before".

But a council spokesperson said that after "record rainfall", its assessment of Central Park "found the site cannot safely host the physical demands of We Are FSTVL’s equipment and audience".

We Are FSTVL said: "We are heartbroken by this decision and can’t wait to dance with you again in 2025 and show you everything we have been working on."

Performers already set to take to the stage at this year's festival included Arielle Free, Chase & Status Live, and Swedish DJ and producer Eric Prydz.

Barking & Dagenham Council said in its statement: “We are sorry to announce that the We Are FSTVL event organised by Rebelia Ltd and scheduled to take place in Central Park, Dagenham on the weekend of 25-26 May has had to be cancelled.

“This difficult decision has been made due to health and safety concerns.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The festival had been held in Upminster for a number of years but the change in location was announced late last year.

When asked why the move was taking place, a spokesperson for the festival said in December: "The festival has moved to Dagenham this year as organisers wanted a fresh look for the show."

Ticket holders will be contacted via email with further information regarding refunds, We Are FSTVL added.
