Youth centres are being renovated in the East End with cash from the government’s Youth Investment Fund.
A £488,000 grant is being added to money from Tower Hamlets Council to give four centres a makeover, to create safe spaces for young people.
The centres are Kitcat Terrace in Bow, the Urban Adventure Base at Mile End Park, Limehouse Youth Centre and Wapping Youth Centre.
“We can now improve the standard of our youth centres,” Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman said.
“Providing safe and accessible spaces is a priority for young people where they can thrive.”
The council has already put up £13.7million to expand youth services to run programmes for youngsters from 11 to 19.
Its Young Tower Hamlets service has now been selected as one of 140 youth projects up and down the country to get money from the Department for Culture and the Social Investment Business charity to “level up” opportunities for youngsters.
