Some Overground services will not run this weekend while work to replace a century-old bridge takes place.

Trains will not run on Saturday and Sunday (January 27 to 28) between Willesden Junction and Stratford, or between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction, so that a new bridge can be placed over lines in Dalston.

The new structure will carry Kingsbury Road over the tracks near Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland stations.

Built around 1916, the old bridge was in poor condition and engineers demolished the original structure over the Christmas period.

Pedestrians and cyclists will once again be able to use the bridge – which is part of a key cycle route between the City and north London – once works finish this summer.

The work will also impact Overground services in the area on February 3 to 4, and February 10 to 11.

Remaining jobs include putting the road and pavement back, as well as reinstalling the electricity connections that run across the bridge.

Simon Milburn, Network Rail Anglia’s infrastructure director, said: “Kingsbury Road is on a really key route for walkers and cyclists, and it also sits over busy London Overground lines carrying thousands of passengers every day.

“Our replacement bridge will help keep everyone moving safely and reliably for decades to come.

“I’d like to thank all those affected by the disruption while we continue to work on the bridge – we’re grateful for your patience and support on this vital project.”

On February 3 to 4, there will be no London Overground rail service between Willesden Junction and Stratford, or between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction.

On February 10 to 11, there is no London Overground rail service between Camden Road and Stratford, or between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction.
