A mother has expressed her surprise after her story about giving birth in a Romford hospital car park was seen by people across the world.

Rainham's Taylor Thacker, 27, gave birth to Elsie-Jay in the car park of Queen's Hospital in Romford on January 7, delivered by her mother Karen Hayward.

National papers have since picked up the story after it appeared in this paper, notably the Daily Mirror and American tabloid the New York Post.

As a result, Taylor has been inundated with messages about "famous" Elsie-Jay.

"My baby is famous," Taylor said. "People are saying we need to tie the knot now," in reference to her fiance Paul Clarke, 33.

Paul was on hand to cut the baby's umbilical cord since there was no time to alert hospital staff that day.

Taylor had been rushed to Queen's Hospital in Romford after her waters broke at her Elizabeth Road home.

But she only made it as far as a car park bench at the hospital when Elsie-Jay made her arrival.

"I think I was just in shock," Taylor previously said. "It was very rushed and I was in shock really - I didn't have any time to think at all."

It was a surprise to Taylor, Paul and Karen since Elsie-Jay was due to be born a week later.

Visitors, including aunt Leanne Hayward and grandmother Carol Clarke, 66, were also said to have flocked to the hospital's maternity unit.

"The midwives were shocked," Paul previously said. It's not every day a baby is born in the car park."

Elsie-Jay joins sister Ivy-Lea, three, and brother Freddie, one, in the family.
