A Romford house fire has been put out three hours after dozens of firefighters were first sent to the scene.

Eight fire engines carrying around 60 firefighters from Dagenham, Romford, Leyton, Harold Hill, Ilford, Barking and Poplar stations were dispatched to the scene in Bournebrook Grove

The incident was first reported at 9.53am and the fire at the mid-terraced home was finally under control by around 12.55pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, London Fire Brigade said.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were pictured on scene, aiding the fire crews. 

It is understood the London Ambulance Service was in attendance but their aid was not necessary.

Our on-site reporter George Hayes was advised by a police officer that "no one was hurt". 

Firefighters were seen scaling scaffolding on the building to assess the roof which was still smoking at around 12.30pm. 

The fire crews were stood down at 12.56pm.
