Throughout the month of February, we’re telling the story of the 21 teenagers who were murdered in 2023. Our campaign, The 21, seeks to remember every victim as a young person with a family and their whole life ahead of them. We want to change the culture of kids carrying knives and becoming involved in violence. 

This is the face of Tyler McDermott, a 17-year-old boy who was shot dead in Tottenham in 2023.

Here is a timeline of events and everything we know so far about his death: 

Thursday, April 13:

In the early hours of the morning Tyler was found on Norman Road in Tottenham suffering from a gunshot injury to the head.

His injury was assessed as life-threatening and Tyler was rushed to hospital.

Friday, April 14:

The following afternoon Tyler was pronounced dead at hospital.

Saturday, April 15:

Two 19-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of murder.


Eight people were charged in connection with Tyler's murder.

  • Tyrese Barnett, 19, of no fixed address (also charged with the attempted murder of another male and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life)
  • Leo Reid, also 19, of Tulse Hill (also charged with possession of an offensive weapon)
  • Tyrese Matthews, 20, of Black Prince Road, Lambeth
  • Damaris McBeth, 19, of The Glade, Croydon
  • Rhys Antwi, 19, of Prentis Road, Streatham
  • Alfred Coker, 20, of Bowen Drive, Dulwich
  • Kalam Bagge, 18, of Nimrod Road, Streatham
  • Shernez Walters, 19, of Hendon Gardens, Romford
