Potholes and "poorly maintained" roads in Havering will be tackled by a £10.4 milion investment, an MP has announced.

Julia Lopez, Conversative MP for Hornchurch and Upminster, said Havering will get at least £10.4 million that would have been spent on HS2 to fix potholes and improve its roads.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper wrote to Mrs Lopez on December 20 stating that Havering would receive over £10 million in reallocated funding over the next decade.

This comes after the Government cancelled parts of High Speed Two (HS2), scrapping phases that would have taken the railway line from the West Midlands and Birmingham on from Crewe to Manchester.

"I know how frustrated residents are by poorly maintained streets," Mrs Lopez said. "It's great to see so much pothole and road resurfacing cash go into Havering’s highways."

Mrs Lopez's office said the MP asked Mr Harper for the money directly, rather than going through Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Havering is expected to receive £333,000 before April and the same amount again in the next financial year, according to Mrs Lopez's office.
