Two men have appeared in court accused of selling fireworks to an underage person.

Luke Vardy, 28, of St Clements Avenue in Harold Wood, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (November 14) to answer two counts relating to alleged underage sales.

His father Mark Vardy, 59, of Theydon Park Road in Theydon Bois, Epping, appeared alongside him, also charged with two counts.

The prosecution, brought by Havering Council, relates to the alleged sale of fireworks “to a person under the minimum age limit” on October 28, 2021.

The maximum sentence if convicted is three months in prison or an unlimited fine.

The council is also prosecuting the fireworks company, LMV Enterprises - which trades as Fireworks 4 Sale - of Station Road, Rayleigh, on two counts.

The firm, incorporated in 2016, ran the Fireworks 4 Sale shop in Station Road, Harold Wood.

Its sole director is Luke Vardy.

No pleas were entered on behalf of any of the three defendants.

Defence lawyer Nick Ham requested an adjournment so lawyers could examine some “technical matters” around the charges.

The case was adjourned until Tuesday, December 12.

Both men were released on unconditional bail.
