Romford town centre was recognised with an award in the 2023 Britain in Bloom national gardening competition.

Romford Business Improvement District (BID) won silver gilt in the town centres category.

“It doesn’t get much better than this,” BID director Julie Frost said. “We’ve won three years in a row in one of the most competitive environment awards in the UK and now recognised by Britain in Bloom.

“We have changed perceptions of our town with more greenery, colour and wildlife, something we will continue into 2024.”

Awards were given out by BBC TV Gardeners' World presenter Rachel de Thame.

Romford won over the judges who were shown around the town centre in July to see hanging baskets, planters, raised beds, community gardens and green “living walls” making wildlife prosper in a greener town centre.

Romford BID also won gold and silver gilt accolades in two categories at last year’s Britain in Bloom awards.
