A suspected WWII grenade was reported to police and subsequently removed from a home in Dagenham.

Police were alerted to an object believed to be a Second World War explosive at around 1.35pm on October 15. 

Officers attended the address in Valence Avenue and were able to safely establish that the item was not live. 

The surrounding area was cordoned off to the public during their in-person enquiry. 

A spokesperson for the Met police said: "At approximately 1.35pm on Sunday, 15 October police were alerted to an item, reported to be WWII grenade, found at an address in Valence Avenue, Dagenham.

"Officers attended and it was established the item was not live. Cordons were put in place while the scene was dealt with and have since been removed."
