A takeaway has reopened as a fish and grill restaurant and readers have expressed their views.

The former Burlington's fish and chip takeaway in Main Road, Gidea Park, reopened as Burlington's Fish and Grill on September 21.

Financial struggles and Covid had presented problems, according to manager Halil Tasasiz, 20, but he said Burlington's is in a good position.

Readers have since reacted positively to the re-opening.

"Just got my delivery from them - awesome as always," said Cherry Cameron.

Maude Mirwood, another reader, praised the service and said waiting customers are sometimes given free chips.

"Go here regularly since it opened," she said. "The service is top notch and sometimes if you have to wait a bit they give you a few free chips.

"Always polite and friendly to me," Maude added.

But Kimberley Budd noticed Burlington's prices had increased after re-opening.

Halil previously explained that a lot of money had gone into Burlington's, including hiring new staff.

"It has changed a lot," he said. "I started when I left school at 14 or 15 years old.

"We used to work in a takeaway, now there's more staff and everyone has their own role," he said last week.

Reader Joyce Grant said Burlington's deserved to be in a fortunate position.

"The lovely family who run Burlington's deserve success," she said. "Friendly service and excellent food."

Nicole Drew added that the restaurant fits in well with the neighbourhood.

"Such lovely people and lovely food - and looks lovely in Gidea Park," she said.

Burlington's is run by Halil, his father and owner Ayhan Tasasiz, as well as his older brother and co-manager Aydin, 21.

Ayhan has been owner for more than 10 years and said Burlington's was not in a difficult financial position.

His son Halil said it was thanks to their customers that they have been able to keep going.

Despite the change, Burlington's has retained a loyal following and many such as Khadija Yousaf, a reader, said they would visit.

"Will be making a visit always driven past this shop when dropping of (sic) my son to school," Khadija added.
