A Co-op store has been raided for the second time in just two weeks.

Metropolitan Police were called at around 9.40pm on Sunday (October 1) to reports of a burglary at the shop in Dagenham Road, Rush Green.

Officers were told that a group of five people entered the shop and stole cash, cigarettes, alcohol and scratch cards. A spokesperson for Met Police has confirmed that no injuries were sustained in the incident.

Police, they said, carried out a search of the area but the suspects were not found. No arrests have been made so far.

On September 19, masked men raided the same store and stole cigarettes, vapes and alcohol among other items before fleeing in a car.

Enquiries into both incidents are underway.

A spokesperson for the Co-op told this paper that they cannot comment on the incident and security measures at a specific store as "crime affects all retailers".

Matt Hood, Co-op Food managing director, previously said that the company has invested more than £200m in recent years in colleague and community safety to counter criminal behaviour.
