A new restaurant in a Mayfair Hotel which has long been a central London bolthole for royals, dignitaries and celebrities will open later this month.

Claridge’s Restaurant will officially open from September 18 in its eponymous hotel following a soft launch throughout the summer, and 20 years on from when the venue last went by the same name.

Claridge’s, which has hosted A-list guests since Queen Victoria and Prince Albert paid the then small hotel a visit in the 1860s and housed exiled heads of state during WWII, has homed several top end restaurants in its time.

Most recently this includes Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, Fera at Claridge’s by Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan and Davies and Brook.

The newest incarnation of Claridge’s Restaurant is an art-deco styled “classically inspired but contemporary British restaurant” helmed by chef Coalin Finn (ex-Davies and Brook, Sketch).

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the kitchen prepares modern classic dishes; buckwheat crumpets piled with soubise cream, truffle and Dorset snails; barbequed radish skewers braised in a homemade teriyaki sauce; and grilled native lobster with crushed Jersey royals or artichoke agnolotti.

Desserts are in classic British tradition, and include raspberry vacherin and chocolate souffle tart, or there’s a selection of all-British cheeses served with cherry chutney and plum crackers.

Guests are welcome to sit at the bar also, either for an aperitif or for a classic cocktail or two.

The interiors are befitting of its grand surrounds. It has been designed by the Bryan O’Sullivan Studio team who have worked with the hotel’s art deco heritage to create a sublime space, kitted out in antique brass, Calcutta Viola marble, leather banquettes and mosaic flooring.
