A Harold Hill site briefly occupied by Travellers has been vacated after a joint operation by police and Havering Council.

A group of Travellers reportedly arrived at Central Park in Wincanton Road on August 25 in more than 25 caravans.

Local people on social media complained about “rubbish piling up”, and police were seen on site.

A spokesperson for Havering Council told the Recorder that the Travellers “complied with instructions” to leave by police and the council’s enforcement officers.

They used powers under a council-obtained injunction which stops people from setting up camp on land without permission from the land owner or the council.

Failure to comply could result in arrest, and similar powers have also been granted to Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge councils.

The council’s spokesperson added that the site in Harold Hill was vacated on the evening of Tuesday (August 29).
