The cause of a fire that significantly damaged a flat above a restaurant in Upminster is “undetermined”.

Eight fire engines and 60 fire fighters attended the scene of the incident at St Mary’s Lane in Upminster after the brigade were called at 8.40am yesterday (August 15).

No injuries or damage to neighbouring properties were reported.

Fire crews from Hornchurch, Dagenham, Harold Hill and other surrounding fire stations brought the fire under control by 10.44am.

St Mary’s Lane was partially shut both ways between Station Road and Tudor Gardens for hours until it was reopened after 2pm.

A spokesperson for LFB had said yesterday that an investigation will be carried out into the cause of the fire.

The brigade has recorded the cause as “undetermined”.

Unverified reports and pictures from the scene suggested that the fire had broken out above Arian’s Restaurant and Lounge.
