International Beer Day is here so there is no better time to visit an independent brewery or pub near you.

From The Hop Inn Micropub in Hornchurch to Romford's The Ship, run independently for the last 250 years according to its website, Havering has plenty of choice.

We have done a round up of five of the best for you to celebrate today and enjoy over the weekend.

1. Gidea Park Micropub in Romford

Gidea Park Micropub is open today until 11pm and has a selection of ales, lagers and ciders.

From The Quiet American 4.2% Kent American Pale Ale to a more potent 7.2% Organic Farmhouse Scrumpy cider, the micropub caters for the moderate and the excessive.

Reviewer Paul Eaketts said it was a gem and a great place to find real ale.

2. The Hop Inn Micropub in Hornchurch

Part of the micropub movement, an effort to protect independent breweries by the Micropub Association, The Hop Inn promises booze with no distractions from phones and other devices.

It supports charities including The Friends of Upminster Windmill and sits just two minutes away from Emerson Park station.

One TripAdvisor reviewer, Russ, said it had a fantastic choice and was a great place to see comedy.

3. Brentwood Brewery

The historic brewery traces back to around 1700, according to its website, and has a dedicated beer club.

Customer Laura Lloyd said on Facebook that it was a fantastic, fun place with friendly staff.

4. Taproom in Upminster

The taproom is commended for its nightlife and jazz evenings.

It has already announced that it will be celebrating International Beer Day and is scheduled to stay open until 10.30pm tonight, according to Facebook.

Reviewer Tim said it was "a fantastic little pub with a great atmosphere".

5. The Ship in Gidea Park, Romford

Dating back to 1792, The Ship is a grade II-listed building that holds historical significance.

For those seeking a proper pint in an old English boozer, The Ship the best bet to enjoy your Friday night.

The Ship serves cask ales including Doombar, Green King IPA and weekly guest ales.
