A technical college opposite Dagenham’s new Eastbrook film studio complex is changing its name to fit in with its new surroundings.

The Elutec Academy is switching to Brook Sixth Form and Academy along with curriculum changes for the new term in September.

The name “Elutec” is obscure and “doesn't conjure the image” it wants to project with science, maths, engineering and now media courses, the school admits.

The new Eastbrook studios across the road from the school is “an opportunity to let potential students know where we're located”.

The new name also provides “a more accurate reflection of who we are”, predominantly a sixth form technical academy with small Year 10 and 11 cohorts.

The academy is continuing to enrol new students for Year 10 and Year 12 at the start of each academic year. Its Year 13 pupils go onto apprenticeships or university.
