The first step to refreshing Havering’s Local Plan has been taken, as the council calls on residents, businesses and landowners to submit potential sites for development.

The borough’s Local Plan, which sets out policies guiding future works, was adopted in 2021 and now needs refreshing as required by the Planning Inspectorate.

Recommended sites can vary from residential and commercial to education or healthcare. They will not be automatically chosen for development, but will be collated before undergoing further assessment.

Cllr Graham Williamson, cabinet member for development and regeneration, said: “The Local Plan will help us to shape and meet Havering’s needs for housing and employment land, as well as putting plans in place for the necessary infrastructure to support that development.

“They are both key to the borough’s future prosperity and the aspirations of our communities.

“This new Local Plan will be a key document that will help to contribute to a positive future in Havering, setting out how we will achieve this over a 15-year period and I encourage all landowners considering development opportunities to take part in this exercise.”
