From the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and potholes to pubs and healthcare, Recorder readers have had their say on the changes they would like to see in the borough this year.

We asked readers what they would most like to see happen in Havering in 2023.

By far the most common response on Facebook was regarding the ULEZ expansion.

Due to come into effect in August, it will see motorists across Havering whose vehicles do not comply with emissions standards have to pay a £12.50 daily charge.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said the move will mean outer Londoners can "breathe cleaner air and live healthier lives".

But our post received comments from those who want it binned.

Eve Christina said: "Scrapping ULEZ needs to be top of the agenda. It will crush businesses and families trying to make a living."

Chris Mills, Harry Allan and Neil White were among a large group of commenters who all agreed, saying "No to ULEZ".

The most popular comment, also on the same subject, was by Sarah Beth who asked for: "No ULEZ and an NHS which can cope."

Multiple commenters highlighted healthcare, with many referencing Queen's Hospital in particular.

Julia Allsop said: "I’d like to see our Queen's Hospital in a situation [where] it could cope with our local needs and an ambulance service that could deal effectively with emergencies in the borough."

Kim Chennells added: "Build the hospital bigger on the old ice rink and not a housing estate on there. The hospital can’t cope now... The hospital is just not big enough to cope with all the people moving into Romford."

Making streets and roads safer was another common demand, with readers also asking for potholes to be filled.

Stacey Cook asked for a fix to "all the potholes in the roads" and Leah Anne Hurley said there are "far too many and [they are] sometimes hard to avoid".

Some readers called for more pubs and eateries.

Michael Davis said: "I would love to see some new chicken shops, maybe a couple of takeaways on the high streets and some more parking wardens", while Paulio Dunn asked for "a stop to pubs closing".
