A new Collier Row dessert bar has spoken of the “unreal” response from customers – with fans coming from as far as America.

Bhai’s Dessert Bar, which had been operating online for more than two years, finally moved into its new home on Collier Row Road at the end of last year, with its official launch held on New Year’s Eve.

Started by two sisters, Zona and Aksa Hussain, Bhai’s has grown into a wider family-owned business, with their brother, Usama Taseer, and his wife, Afroz Moin, also involved.

Selling a range of sugary goods, including waffles, milkshakes and doughnuts, Afroz previously told the Recorder that the team’s primary goal is for people to “eat our desserts and be happy”.

Following a soft launch on Christmas Eve, a spokesperson for Bhai’s has now described the full launch as “phenomenal”, with the support from the community “unreal”.

“We had queues outside the shop whilst the shutters were down and the balloons were still being put up,” they said. “People were so eager to get a piece of Bhai’s that they were standing outside in the crazy wind and rain waiting to be let in.”

“We had people fly in from America and people drive down from Scotland, Birmingham and north London to be a part of the launch, as well as the local community.”

Bhai’s spokesperson added: “Our aim is to be eclectic and stand out on the high street - and I am certain that with the quality and the service we have to offer, that is already happening.”
