Saint Francis Hospice patients were given a festive treat when they were taken to see central London's Christmas lights on a 'jumbulance'.

The hospice, which cares for people across east London and Essex, teamed up with the charity Across to put on the experience for patients and their families.

Doctors, nurses, health care assistants and volunteers from the hospice joined the trip to care for patients and serve mince pies and mulled wine.

A hospice spokesperson said: "Across provided a jumbulance – a bus adapted for people who need nursing and medical care – so patients from the ward could travel in comfort and safety with their loved ones beside them."

The event was organised by the hospice's Dr Gemma Constable and £1,250 was donated towards it.

“It was a privilege to share the experience with the patients and a joy to witness so much happiness, love and care between patients, their families and staff,” Dr Constable said.
