A school is “absolutely delighted” after being named the best London comprehensive for 2023 in the latest Sunday Times Schools Guide.

The Coopers' Company and Coborn School claimed the top spot after its first full year following the pandemic.

The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2023 guide ranks schools based on the percentage of A* to B results at A-level, and the percentage of A* and A grade, and those graded nine, eight and seven at GCSE and iGCSE.

This summer, 81% of A-level grades at Coopers' Company and Coborn School were A* to B, with 95% of GCSE results received between nine and four.

Headteacher Sue Hay said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the hard work of the students and staff has been recognised in the outstanding exam results that we achieved in 2022.”

Ms Hay added that she had been told the school had moved up the rankings “quite significantly”, and that they had received a letter from schools minister Nick Gibb praising the number of students studying languages.

Helen Davies, editor of The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide, said: “These have been a challenging few years for teachers, pupils and their parents, and the success of many in our league table is testament to the stamina and support shown by all concerned.

"It is also clear that more attention is being placed on wellbeing and mental health – from meditation rooms to counselling support, even therapy dogs – and schools are being proactive to bring about positive changes.”
