A vacant pub is being eyed-up as a potential site for conversion to offices.

In a change of use application submitted to Havering Council, MK9 Investments hopes to turn the ground floor of The New Angel, in Broadway, Rainham, into office space.

According to plans filed by the company's agent Design Ghar, three offices and a meeting room are to be built, with eight employees estimated to work from the site.

An additional parking space is also proposed, upping the current two available to three.

The pub is currently unused, with the website The Lost Pubs Project stating it closed in September 2022.

If approved, the work is expected to be complete by January 2023.

Another disused pub in Broadway, almost directly opposite The New Angel, The Bell, was also recently subject to an application.

However, Havering Council refused the bid to construct nine homes on the site's car park, with the “overbearing” size of the flats among the reasons given.

Design Ghar was approached for comment.
