A ROMFORD shopping centre presented a cheque for 1,000 to a local charity for people with autism last week.

Romford Shopping Hall, Market Place, raised the money over the holiday period in a Christmas Grotto.

The money was donated to Cheryl Mayhew and Anne Myatt from Romford Autistic Group Support (RAGS), which is run by, and supports parents of children with autism.

Michelle Fitzgibbons, from the shopping hall, said: “Santa’s gone back to lapland now, but it’s nice to know that we were able to raise so much money for charity. We charged 1 per visit, so that’s 1,000 children and families who came to see him and made a big difference for the charity.”

As well as supporting parents, RAGS works to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders in the general public and campaigns for improved local services for people with autism spectrum disorder.
