Martin: We must show hunger

Romford manager Paul Martin wants his men to bring their midweek form to the FA Trophy tie at Bedfont today (Saturday).

Boro bounced back from Ryman Division One North defeat at Enfield Town last weekend with a 3-0 success at Chatham to give themselves a boost.

And Martin said: “I’m sure if it was a Tuesday league, we would win it!

“Saturday we didn’t turn up, Tuesday we did. Maybe I’ll have to stop them having a beer on Fridays.”

Romford climbed to sixth in the table, but will be on their guard as they turn their focus on to Trophy action.

Martin added: “We don’t know too much about Bedfont, but we went into Chatham blind.

“Sometimes it’s better not to worry about what they might have in their locker.

“We’re in form and probably the favourites but if we don’t turn up on the day, we could be upset, like we were in the FA Cup at Southend Manor.

“The hunger we showed on Tuesday, we’ve got to play like that every game, we can’t pick and choose our games.

“Hopefully it will be an enjoyable coach journey home, though, and we can get some money into the club.”

The winners receive 2,000 in prize money and Boro will then return to league action at Tilbury on Wednesday.

Dockers inflicted a first league defeat of the season on leaders Grays this week, winning 3-1 at Rookery Hill.

Martin said: “It’s a tight league this year. Tilbury are on a good run, so are Redbridge.

“It’s nice and tight and I think if you’re still in the top half come Christmas, anything is possible.”

Hornchurch experienced mixed fortunes in the Ryman Premier Division this week, beating Wingate before losing to Bury.

Urchins visit East Thurrock today, after they produced an FA Cup shock in midweek with a 3-1 win over St Albans.
