Rivals hit the road for tough tests
Saturday (3pm)
Ryman Premier Division
Kingstonian v Hornchurch
Urchins returned from the three-week ‘winter break’ with a 1-0 home win over Lewes last weekend.
Leading scorer Martin Tuohy netted on his own return from a three-match suspension, taking his tally for the season to 20.
But Billericay’s 2-0 win at Canvey kept them five points clear at the top of the table, albeit from two extra games played.
Urchins boss Jimmy McFarlane was pleased with the performance of debutants Leon McKenzie and Fola Orilonishe at Bridge Avenue and will have Reiss Noel and Frankie Curley back from their own suspensions for the trip to Kingsmeadow.
But Lewis Smith remains sidelined as he is currently serving a two-match ban after collecting 10 bookings this season.
Previous meeting: Hornchurch 3 (Tuohy, Smith, Curley) Kingstonian 0 (October 15).
Ryman Division 1N
Leiston v Romford
Romford make the long trip to Suffolk to take on table-topping Leiston.
And they will do so in better spirits, following their midweek win at Ilford.
Kurt Smith netted his first goal since returning from a broken fibula, to cancel out Ilford’s early opener, and Jack Barry was also on target before the break.
Debutant Hussain Isa put Boro 3-1 up before the home side set up a tense finale.
It was Romford’s second win in eight games, with their only other success in that time being their 2-1 success against Chatham - the only other time they had found the back of the net.
They climbed above Chatham as a result, into 14th place, and are just one point short of manager Paul Martin’s first target of 40 points.
After that, Martin wants Boro to surpass last season’s total (56), but they will have to be near their best to get something against the leaders.
Previous meeting: Romford 1 (White) Leiston 2 (October 23).
