A Hornchurch running club lit the way for the Olympic flame with their own special torch relay.
Havering ’90 Joggers joined the Havering leg of the Real Relay – a recreational 8000-mile relay set up to follow the route of the Olympic torch without the breaks afforded the official event.
Eight Havering ’90 members brightened the 10-mile journey through Havering for Real Relay runner Noel Jones, whose “torch” was a GPS-tracked baton.
The Real Relay was set up by sports company Endurance Life 10 days after the official relay began. Because it carried on through the night, it overtook the Olympic torch in Dover and has already completed the route.
