Romford captain reflects on last-gasp loss
Romford captain Jack Barry admits his side’s last-gasp defeat to Ryman Division One North rivals Brentwood was hard to take.
Former Boro striker Alex Read put Blues ahead and Ryan Doyle restored their lead before half-time, after Kurt Smith had levelled.
Barry’s fine strike on the hour made it 2-2 and Doyle headed into his own net on 83 minutes to give Boro hope of victory.
But a slip by Lewis Payne let Steve Butterworth in to equalise in the second minute of injury time, before Read’s late free-kick clinched a 4-3 win for the visitors.
Barry, who netted his fourth goal of the campaign, said: ““I can’t believe we lost the game after winning 3-2 with one or two minutes to go.
“And to lose to another deflected free-kick was heartbreaking.”
“I thought we controlled the game at 3-2 and was going on to win, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
