Firefighters rescued a horse which was tangled in barbed wire after it was trapped in a ditch.
A woman had been riding the horse in Dudbrook Road, Navestock, on Sunday when it became trapped.
A vet was called and sedated the horse, which was rescued from the wire an hour later, just before 5pm.
The woman suffered a foot injury and was treated by paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service at the scene before being taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow with a suspected fractured foot.
Firefighters from Brentwood and Great Baddow attended along with two animal rescue units from South Woodham Ferrers.
