The firm behind the building works at Rainham’s Orchard Village estate have won an award for being “considerate constructors”.
Willmott Dixon’s construction site became one of 77 in the UK to achieve the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s gold award – chosen from a list of more than 7,000.
The award reflects consideration for the local neighbourhood, the general public, site staff and the environment.
Willmott Dixon carried out public surveys to find out about local concerns around the construction work, and fears over possible road disruption led to a change of timetabling.
The firm also took on apprentices and worked with local children to create a “legacy mosaic” on the site, as well as upgrading green areas and providing bins.
