Barry: We deserved three points

Romford captain Jack Barry couldn’t hide his disappointment after a 2-2 draw at Potters Bar.

Lewis Francis scored directly from a free kick to draw Boro level, after Gary Wharton had given Potters Bar the lead.

But David Ottley missed a penalty for Romford in the second half before Josh Hutchinson put the home side ahead once again.

Substitute James Ishmail rescued a Ryman Division One North point for Paul Martin’s team, after Cole Penny was sent off for a rash tackle on Abs Seymour.

But Barry was disappointed not to take all three points and said: “We are quite disappointed we didn’t take all three points in all honesty, which we deserved.

“We had loads of chances that we should have put away after missing a penalty, then having a clearance off the line and a few more great chances, but it wasn’t quite happening for us.

“I guess we can’t argue with a point away from home.”

Barry had to be replaced in the 28th minute due to a persistent hamstring injury, but Ishmail replaced him to good effect by securing a point.

The skipper admitted it was hard to watch from the sidelines, but praised his team for coping well with a ‘below par’ pitch.

“It was very frustrating for me having to come off so early on in the game, with a hamstring problem that’s been causing me problems the past couple of weeks,” added Barry.

“Knowing I couldn’t change the game, watching it from the side was very frustrating.

“The boys did well, on a pitch that was very below par to play any kind of football on, so a point is better than no points!”

On his injury troubles, Barry hopes rest will be adequate enough to prevent any more hamstring problems.

Barry added: “It’s not great to be honest. At the moment, the physio is saying it could be something to do with my back.

“That’s what I am hoping it is and all I need is a rest.”
