Residents still have time to voice their objections against the council’s plans to sell off Upminster Park’s car park and the site of the old Windmill Hall.

Cllr Ron Owner (Upminster, RA) is urging people to send their comments into Havering Council over the proposals for the St Mary’s Lane site.

He said: “This is really the last chance. “If the cabinet members see how many people are against these plans, they might reconsider.”

The consultation into the proposals opens this week and is set to close in June.

As part of the proposals, the site and the adjoining land, which has been used as a car park since the ’90s, will be sold.

The plans were approved at the cabinet meeting in March, but the public consultation results will go back to cabinet with recommendations from council officers.

The residents fear that once sold the site could be used to build flats or houses.

Cllr Roger Ramsey, cabinet member for value, said: “By selling the land any funds raised will go straight back into making a number of improvements in the borough and most importantly, it helps us to keep council tax as stable as possible.”
