Seventies heart-throb David Essex was in Romford on Sunday as he met fans at the launch of his new film, Traveller, in which he stars alongside his son Billy.
The film is an action-packed tale of violence, corruption and the world of the traveller community, based on John F. McDonald’s novel Tribe.
He met adoring fans and signed copies of the film’s soundtrack, which he wrote and performed, at Premiere Cinemas, in Mercury Mall.
Speaking about the film, David, 66, said: “My son, Billy Cook, was given the lead part in the film, and later the Director asked to meet me.
“I liked the script, and he asked me to consider the part of Blackberry, a Gypsy horse dealer.
“I felt the film would be different and powerful plus the thought of working with Billy was too good to miss, it was a privilege, he’s such a truthful actor.”
After meeting a host of fans at the event on Sunday, David was pleased to be back in Romford - a place he holds close to his heart.
“It was good to go back. It’s a town I know well, and the reaction to the film there was terrific,” he added.
Traveller is out now in UK cinemas.
