More than 20 firefighters tackled a rubbish fire in Aveley, just outside Havering, this afternoon.
The London Fire Brigade initially reported the blaze to be at The Thames Gateway in Rainham, but later confirmed 21 firefighters from Hornchurch, Dagenham and Barking stations were called to Ship Lane at 12.15pm.
By 2pm, the fire was said to be under control, though its cause remains unknown.
LFB tweeted earlier this afternoon: “The amount of rubbish we’re dealing with in Rainham is about 100 tonnes - approx the same weight as a blue whale.”
