Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane feels he and the players deserve to give the club something back with an FA Cup win over Ryman Premier rivals East Thurrock United tomorrow.

Urchins failed to win any of their opening nine league games, but picked up that first elusive victory at VCD Athletic on Tuesday.

And with everyone at Bridge Avenue backing McFarlane and the squad to turn their fortunes around, the Hornchurch boss admits the least they can do is reward them with the £3,000 prizemoney which is at stake.

“Everybody says it every year that unless you’ve got the money of Margate, Maidstone and Kingstonians of this world, the Cup competitions are a lifeline,” said McFarlane.

“It will be a massive thank you for the club, because the club have been brilliant through this bad run we have had, not only to me, but with all the players as well.

“At other clubs they would have been grizzling, cutting budgets and sacking managers because that’s football. But I think we owe the club a little pay back on Saturday to progress and get some money.”

But with the money on the line, the Urchins chief admits that brings with it a different kind of pressure.

“It’s a different type of pressure than normal,” he added.

“Having the first seven games away has killed us. It’s financial pressure, but you still want to win the game as a manager and it would be nice to progress and get the club a few quid.”

Hornchurch will be boosted by the return of striker Martin Tuohy, who will play some part in the fixture assuming he came through a training session without any problems last night (Thursday).

If the Urchins avoid a replay against the Rocks, they will host Witham at Bridge Avenue on Tuesday.
