Steve Batemen, from Chafford Hundred Youth Football Club, rounds up the last few weeks.

The old football clichés of “we’re down to the bare bones”, “class is permanent, form is temporary” and “sick as a parrot” have certainly been used in the last few weeks for the Under 11 team.

Half term has come along with players away on holiday and the Under 11s have had league games every Sunday over that period.

The team only had the minimum nine players in each game. As injuries and tiredness crept in the results were not good over that period.

The team had started the season in flying fashion as the class of each player is never in doubt. We just need to get all twelve players back together and continue to play our quality football. However the Under 11 team are still the highest scoring team in the division.

The boys have been together for four seasons, winning league and cup trophies, so they know each other’s strengths. It is a whole new football game now they have moved up to nine-a-side, with larger goals and offside decisions.

The football sayings of “Take a bow son” and “Unbelievable Jeff” have been boomed out along the touchline of the Under 9 team. Six games played and the team has scored forty five goals. Every one of the ten players from the team has scored a goal. The team play seven-a-side matches and we recently scored the goal of the season when a throw out from our keeper resulted in every six of the outfield players passing to each other, without the opposition touching the ball and the moved finished off with a quality strike to score a goal.

If it had been filmed then TV and the internet would have been playing it for years to come.

Just like buses, two come along at once with both Obi and Caspar scoring headed goals. We have now set the Under 9 a mission to become The Invincibles and go the whole season unbeaten.
