Correy Davidson’s late goal sent Hornchurch to a fourth successive defeat at Bridge Avenue.

Following losses against Romford and Chelmsford in the Velocity Trophy and Essex Senior Cup over the past week, after a home reverse against Dereham, Urchins saw Theo Fairweather-Johnson fire just wide on seven minutes.

Visiting captain Patrick Ahern headed over from Elliot Ronto’s free-kick on 12 minutes, before George Purcell fired wide for Urchins.

Purcell also dragged a free-kick wide, before Kenzer Lee cleared a Witham effort off the line on 25 minutes.

Brad Warner produced a strong run and cross from the left, but Purcell was just beaten to the ball and a Jed Chouman free-kick also evaded team-mates before being pushed wide by Bobby Mason.

Leon McKenzie replaced Ross Wall during the break and headed into the arms of Mason from Purcell’s cross five minutes after the restart.

Witham’s Ronto fired wide from 25 yards, before Warner saw a shot well saved by Mason and a free-kick punched clear by the visiting keeper moments later.

Sam Mott had to tip over a shot from former team-mate Usman Adeniji before the hour mark, then saw Davidson’s drive across the face of goal evade three team-mates.

McKenzie sidefooted wide from Warner’s cross on 74 minutes, before substitute Mathias Fanimo draggeed another shot past the post.

But Witham went close to breaking the deadlock when two efforts were cleared off the line on 79 minutes, before Mason grabbed the ball following a goalmouth scramble at the other end.

Mason produced a stunning save to deny McKenzie from six yards, following good work on the right by Fanimo, and Urchins were then then stunned in the last minute of normal time as Davidson beat Mott with a stunning strike to earn Witham all three points.
