Queen’s Hospital’s maternity care team scooped a much-coveted award after impressing a grandmother with how much it had improved between the births of her two grandchildren.

The maternity team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) found themselves nominated for the trust’s Hospital Hero award at a glamorous awards night at Orsett Hall on November 16.

The prize is voted for by the public, and the team were extremely happy that their hard work in improving the unit had been formally recognised.

Sue Lovell, interim head of midwifery, said: “We were delighted to win this award, particularly as we were put forward by the relative of a patient.

“We’ve worked hard in the last few years to improve the experience of our patients. We’ve increased the number of midwives and introduced nursery nurses who can support mums with sick babies, freeing up midwife time to care for other women.”
