The Rainham community has been hit hard yet again with the recent news that Chafford Sport Complex will be closing. A decision made by the cabinet at Havering Council.

The south of the borough continues to get a raw deal from Havering Council, and I've made my views on this perfectly clear.

It's about time the council invest in the area and listen to residents.

The council have informed me that a full feasibility study into a new sports centre in the south of the borough will commence in due course.

The outcome of the feasibility is due to be reported to Havering's cabinet in the autumn this year.

This is by no means a concrete promise and the south of the borough has been snubbed before. I want to show Havering Council the impact of their decision in Rainham, Wennington and South Hornchurch.

It is with this in mind that I am calling on residents to voice their support for new leisure facilities by emailing their comments to mailto:shaveringleisure@outlook.com

I will be monitoring this situation closely. I have asked Havering Council for a full report to be sent to me in autumn following the feasibility study.

With Chafford Sports Complex closing, South Havering will need new leisure facilities.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be doing all I can to ensure that the council honour their promise to deliver new facilities for the south of the borough.

The community needs to come together and show the strength of feeling for new leisure facilities in the south.

I'm urging residents to help me put pressure on Havering Council by emailing the campaign address with their comments, which I will collate and submit in the autumn.
