Greens have been in good form of late and go in search of more joy this Saturday

Hendon manager Gary McCann heads into this Saturday’s FA Trophy First Round Qualifying tie with Kings Langley full of confidence following their latest results.

The Greens made it three Bostik Premier Division wins on the spin with a 2-1 come-from-behind success at Worthing on Saturday before progressing to the second round of the London Senior Cup on Monday night against fellow Bostik Premier side Wingate & Finchley.

That came with a penalty shoot-out win over the Blues after the game had ended deadlocked at 2-2.

McCann will be hoping to continue their good run when they host a Kings Langley side who have won just one league game this season in the Evo- Stik Southern Premier Division.

Their success in Sussex over Worthing at the weekend keeps McCann’s side well-placed in the table, but they had to do it the hard way in tough, windy conditions.

The Greens fell behind in the second half to Alfie Young’s effort, but persevered and restored parity when Niko Muir netted his 12th goal of the season and they sealed victory three minutes from time through substitute Josh Walker, much to the relief of McCann.

“Those were as difficult conditions for a match I have been involved in for a very long time,” he said.

“The wind was very demanding and a test to deal with and I don’t think either team came to terms with it in the first half.

“When we went a goal down I was still confident about getting the three points, so long as we didn’t leave it too late to get the first.

“When we got our equaliser I was sure we would go on to win, but they had a great chance at 1–1 when Sam Murphy cleared a shot off the line and the rebound was blasted over the bar.”

The introduction of Walker off the bench proved crucial and the Greens boss added: “Our bench and squad proved pivotal and if we have showed a bit better composure in the last 15 minutes I think we could still have gone on to win more comfortably, but it would not have been a true reflection on the game.”

Hendon hope for more cup joy on Saturday.
