A Chigwell runner is to receive a national award after raising more than £10,00 for the Lymphoma Association.
Jaimie Sinclair, 33, son of Recorder receptionist Beverley, raised £11,200 for the charity running the London Marathon in April with his friend Marc Silver, 36.
Marc’s wife Leanne, 34, was diagnosed with the disease five years ago, but has since made a full recovery and gone on to have three children.
She was planning to run this year’s marathon when she fell pregnant with the couple’s third child, so Marc and Jaimie decided to take part instead.
The two friends will now receive Beacon of Hope Awards at a ceremony on September 12.
The marathon was Jaimie’s fourth, and the pair began training in December, although Marc was forced to walk the route after hurting his ankle playing football.
As well as sponsorship, the pair organised a raffle, enabling them to raise such an impressive amount of money.
Jaimie said: “It’s nice to be recognised. We all know someone affected by cancer. The support Leanne had from the charity going through it was amazing, so we wanted to give something back.”
