Ryman One North: Romford 5 Redbridge 0
Redbridge fell to a crushing Ryman One North defeat to rivals Romford as they shipped five goals at a sunny Ship Lane despite making a promising start.
The Motormen hit the bar early on but an injury forced Lewis Bentley off and it went downhill from there as they failed to seriously test Romford keeper Atu Ngoy throughout.
They nearly made the perfect start when Dan Smith was given too much time on the right and picked out Bentley but he headed against the crossbar before Emiel Aiken sliced wide.
Bentley’s game ended when he was forced off with injury before Romford took the lead with Redbridge waiting to bring on Ben Bradbury in his place.
Dan Jones ran through on goal but dithered allowing Motormen keeper Dean Driscoll to come for the ball, it broke loose however and Tom Richardson was on hand to poke in from close range.
Bradbury came on after the goal before we had another stoppage when Romford’s Abs Seymour clashed heads with Liam Thomas.
When played resumed it wasn’t long before the hosts doubled their lead through Nick Reynolds, although George Woodward played a huge part in the goal.
Woodward whipped in the corner kick and put the ball on a plate for Reynolds to nod past Driscoll and doubled the hosts lead.
Redbridge pushed to halve the deficit and Aiken might have pulled one back but he curled wide from just outside Boro’s box.
The second half started awful as after just 50 seconds Romford added a third as Reynolds throw was cleared back out to the Boro forward and his ball in was headed home by Seymour.
To Redbridge’s credit they enjoyed a prolonged spell of possession as they battled to come back but the home side soon added a fourth.
After failing to clear their lines Romford’s Seymour showed great composure to set the ball perfectly for Richardson to curl in the fourth.
It was soon five as Woodward played a superb ball out to Richardson, the Boro man burst past Smith before cutting back for Jones to fire into the roof of the net.
Redbridge again pushed to reduce the arrears but they failed to test Ngoy and the full time whistle confirmed a disappointing 13th league defeat of the season.
