Frew downbeat after Waltham Abbey FA Cup defeat

A very disappointed Barkingside manager Matt Frew was still sounding totally dejected on Monday following his side’s exit from the FA Cup at Waltham Abbey on Saturday.

“What can I say? We were very disappointing, below-par and got exactly what we deserved,” he said.

“To be honest, it was a bad day at the office. I lost two players in the first 10 minutes, but I won’t use that as an excuse, it feels like I’m banging my head against a brick wall sometimes.”

“I’m still very down at the moment, and I hope my players are feeling the same.

“We missed out on £3,000 prize money – vital for this club – I sometimes think the players are just not aware of how important these games are.”

Frew let his players know his feelings after the match. “We approached the game in our usual fashion, warmed-up in the same way, but there we’re just too many players not at the races. You can carry one or two, but not when six or seven are not performing,” he said.

Side have to travel back to Waltham Abbey tonight (Tuesday) for a Ryman North fixture, and of the injuries, the manager said: “Mo Medine has some sort of groin problem and Josh Akpaka looks to have twisted his knee, so both will be unavailable for tonight (Tuesday).

“I will make several changes, if I could change the lot I would. I’ve got players waiting in the wings, so I will give them a chance and see if we can get a positive result.”
