Foxes boss reflects on friendly outings

Ilford boss Allan Fenn had mixed emotions after seeing his side hold Isthmian Premier division side Enfield Town to a goalless draw in midweek.

The Foxes had slipped to a 4-0 loss against Hornchurch on Saturday, but produced a positive reaction at Robert Clack, with Fenn looking to trim his 25-man squad to 20.

Ilford gave a hugely improved display in the 0-0 stalemate and Fenn said: “I’m really pleased. We played well against a very organised side, that are also a very good side.

“However we did not play as well as we did against Hornchurch and we did not really have an attacking threat on the pitch.”

The Essex Senior League side will hope to pose more of an attacking threat in their next match at the weekend.

Fenn had the players in for training last night (Wednesday) ahead of their meeting with Olympian League side Bishop’s Stortford Swifts.

He added: “We will be working on both the positive and negatives which I have seen.”

Ilford lost 8-1 against Swifts a year ago, soon after Fenn had taken over as manager, and will be keen to see a better team performance and how far they have progressed.

Fenn will use the fixture to assess player fitness once more, as well as concentration levels, after seeing his side make improvements in their two matches to date.

He added: “Tough games are good for the players as they develop their fitness levels.”
