Ilford manager Allen Fenn believes January will be a “tell-tale month” for his team in the Essex Senior League after they continued their fine form with a 4-0 win over Tower Hamlets at Cricklefield Stadium.

Recent signing Wale Odedoyin was in the goals once again, netting either side of the interval before substitute Carl Mulling hit a brace of his own in the second half to complete a comfortable afternoon.

The victory made it three wins in a row for Ilford, with 11 goals, and Fenn is delighted with his side’s current form in front of goal, saying: “We’re a different animal at the moment. We’re confident, the belief is there, we’ve got players back from injury.

“The team is playing with freedom and no pressure. It could have been eight on Saturday!

“Since our mini blip in December, our form has been good. Losing to Burnham and Takeley is probably the best thing that could have happened because it refocused us.”

The Ilford boss feels the coming month will determine what his side can achieve this season with games against Basildon United, Bowers & Pitsea, Sawbridgeworth Town and Clapton in store.

“I think January will be a tell-tale month for us with the fixtures coming up,” added Fenn.

“Our ambition is to finish in the top five and we’re on the way to achieving that. There is no pressure on us to succeed, but there is an outside chance of doing something this season. We will just try and win every game we can.”

Ilford visit league leaders Basildon tomorrow (Tuesday) and Fenn is hoping for a positive result with his team in such high spirits.

“We’re organised and prepared off the pitch and we’ll carry the same frame of mind into this game that we did against Tower Hamlets,” he said.

“They’re a good team with good players, but so are we. We’ll go there and with a bit of luck we can get a result.”
