After two cup exits, Mick’s boys go again in the Essex Senior Cup

Barking manager Mick O’Shea wants his players to put the disappointment of defeat in the FA Vase to the back of their minds when they travel to Saffron Walden in the Essex Senior Cup tonight (Tuesday).

The Blues lost 2-1 to Saffron Walden Town at The Meadow on Saturday, having ceded home advantage because of Invictus Games action in Mayesbrook Park.

“I was disappointed with the result first and foremost,” said Frew, “but I was not disappointed with the effort of my lads. For the first 20 minutes or so, I thought we were in the game more, but then they scored with their first real chance of the match.”

“Tonight is another game though. I have a couple of knocks to players, but we have a big squad and it will be an opportunity to give others a run out if need be.”

Saffron Walden currently occupy fourth place in the Thurlow Nunn First Division table after six games, with five wins and one loss to their name. They come into tonight’s game on the back of a 3-2 win at Team Bury on Saturday.

It will be a new experience for the Side boss: “I’ve never played against them in my time in the game, but I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

“We’re unfortunately out of two cups so far, so it would be nice to go further in this competition.

“If not we’ll have to do like Liverpool last season, and concentrate on the league,” he joked.
